The design of the Neighborhood Watch Program is easy to follow. Each Neighborhood Watch program needs a Neighborhood Watch Coordinator. This person is responsible for attending the monthly Coordinator Meetings.
Police Community Picnic
The Police Community Picnic is an event held annually by Ocoee Police Community Affairs Unit. Food, prizes, and games are provided along with crime prevention and educational material. Public Safety Academy is a 32-hour course held once a week for 12 weeks and is taught by Ocoee Police Officers and Firefighters.
It provides citizens insight into various police and fire functions. In order to become a volunteer for the Ocoee Police Department, volunteers will need to take the Public Safety Academy class. The class will discuss crime prevention, legal considerations, police equipment, defensive tactics, first aid and more.
The department has internship programs with the University of Central Florida Criminal Justice program and Valencia College. These programs have a mutual benefit for all participants. Real-time experiences such as the ride-along program, records management, background investigation, working with the criminal investigations division, fingerprinting technology, and other related subjects are offered to intern personnel. Some of the interns are later hired by law enforcement agencies.
This event is geared towards promoting safe behavior by youth and families, with the goal of empowering residents to be safe. Activities include dozens of vendors, free food, games, and activities.
The Ocoee Police Department hosts the Music Festival Poker Tournament. The Poker Tournament is a fundraiser sponsored by the Ocoee Police Department and local businesses to help with the “Holiday Toys for Kids in Need.” All proceeds go to the annual toy drive.
Shop With a Cop
Shop With a Cop is a great opportunity for the Ocoee Police Department and a community business partner to reach out and positively impact young children during the holiday season. In 2018, Wal-Mart donated $2,500 worth of merchandise and Ocoee Police Officers volunteered their time for the children, who were selected at random from those who registered for the Ocoee Police Department’s annual holiday toy drive. Officers escort the selected children through the store and assist them in shopping.
Holiday Toys for Kids in Need
The Holiday Toys for Kids in Need program is an annual program to collect and distribute toys to families in need. The program has been partnering with our community since 1984 and is powered by City of Ocoee employees and the generosity of Ocoee citizens who contribute new unwrapped toys and monies. This program has no administrative costs which mean 100% of the proceeds benefit the children and citizens.
